The interaction of the solar wind with the Earth's magnetic field is an extraordinary important topic because there may also be severe consequences for eveyday life...




The solar wind interacts with smaller bodies in our solar system, as well...



We study these phenomena by the help of numerical modeling and simulations of fully and partionally ionized plasmas.

In addition we investigate the dynamics of dusty plasmas, i.e. partionally ionized plasmas including a heavy multiply charged dust component. Small dust grains are of importance in the Earth"s mesosphere, but in space the dust "grains" can also be meter-sized stones e.g. in planetary rings...

A topic of extraordinary importance with respect to the dynamics of dusty space plasmas is the origin and evolution of our solar system and, of course, extrasolar planetary systems.
